Ben Franklin LaunchLINK: Rules of Engagement for 1099 Independent Contractors

No matter what term you use to describe them (seasonal, interim, contractual, freelance, or consultant in the white-collar world), there can be serious repercussions when temporary or contract workers are misclassified. Independent contractor status can save you big on taxes and benefits. But you must get those classifications right—now more than ever!

In this workshop, you will learn about the issues surrounding the mounting problem of employee misclassification ... how to avoid the most common — and costly — classification mistakes ... and how to create a paper trail that will protect your company — and YOU — in case a claim is ever made against your organization.

Your speaker will be Kate Alward, Director of Human Resources and Training, Ben Franklin Transformations Business Services Network. Kate has experience both as an H/R consultant as well as having formed the H/R division for a tech startup. She has owned two small businesses where she was responsible for all H/R functions among her management responsibilities.

We’ve scheduled the videoconference at noon, to give you an opportunity to spend your lunch getting some new knowledge and having a networking opportunity as well. The locations for this session are: Clearly Ahead Development, Clearfield; J.D. Brown Center, York; Titusville Redevelopment Authority; Oil Region Alliance, Oil City; Bradford Regional Airport; Mifflin County CareerLink Center, Lewistown; 814 Worx, Johnstown; BCDA Office, Bedford; Clarion University SBDC, Clarion, Erie Technology Incubator; Penn State Harrisburg, Middletown and the Candy Factory, Lancaster. In addition, we will host the session at each of the Ben Franklin CNP offices in State College, Erie and Harrisburg.

You’re getting a great deal, what with free content and networking with other entrepreneurs at the same time. So use this link to register at the location of your choice. Don’t delay, as seating at your preferred location may be limited.

See you on March 27th!
